SHOW- Symposium on Hepatic Oncology at Whistler

On behalf of the co-Chairs, faculty and support staff we thank you, our sponsors and participants, for a successful SHOW 2012! The faculty, topics and discussions in our inaugural (and experimental) conference was met with excitement and positive response, making our decision to organize SHOW 2013 relatively easy!

This year, we have invited Dr. Andrew Kennedy, MD, FACRO, as a fourth co-Chair to complement our renowned faculty. He will provide his expertise in radiation oncology to help organize an even bigger opportunity for cross specialty collaboration!

To keep the topics fresh and exciting, we have built on the foundation of the previous format, with more topic-based panels and our signature 'SHOW case based expert panels', both designed to simulate case based discussions in a tumour board format with world class faculty. We also offer on the first day, a '10,000 foot view' introduction of liver-directed therapies from the perspectives of trial interpretation/design, technology platforms, and industry.

With the advent of new techniques in ablative therapies (external beam, microwave, irreversible electroporation), embolotherapies (irinotecan-based drug eluting microspheres, radioembolization), surgical optimization and resection techniques as well as a veritable cornucopia of systemic therapies, our emphasis will be on optimal sequencing of therapies in hopes of better implementing the concept of 'personalized medicine' in the setting of cross specialty collaboration. For 2013, our main focus will be on breast cancer, hepatic primary neoplasms (hepatocellular carcinoma, and cholangiocarcinoma), and GI Primaries (metastatic colorectal carcinoma, and neuroendocrine disease).

The purpose of SHOW is to present practical multidisciplinary perspectives on the treatment of liver cancers in the setting of community-based practice. As such, we have established four co-Chairs, representing specialties involved in liver-directed cancer care for this conference to facilitate cross-specialty dialogue through case-based review, lectures and active audience participation. Our faculty consists of internationally recognized representatives from medical oncology, surgical oncology, hepatobiliary surgery, interventional radiology, radiology and radiation oncology that have embraced and incorporated multidisciplinary care into their daily oncologic practices.

We sincerely hope that you consider joining us in Whistler on January 31 – February 2, 2013, site of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, and rated as the top ski resort in North America by Ski magazine. SHOW will be held at the Chateau Fairmont Whistler, offering premier facilities, special conference room rates, and one of the most scenic alpine destinations in the world.

AMA PRE Category 1, and RCPSC Category 1 credits will be available.

Registration is limited to 150 and early bird discounts are in effect until
December 24, 2012.
